How to use Hue Sync together with your Android TV stick (and Mac)
In my opinion, one of the coolest innovations coming from Philips Hue is their Entertainment feature, coupled with the Hye Sync App (https://www2.meethue.com/en-au/entertainment/hue-sync).
You’ll need to install the app on your computer, designate an entertainment area using their smartphone app. After doing so the lights in that entertainment area will respond to audio/video on the device (in our example a Macbook).
My problem was that I’d normally use my Samsung’s TV’s native Spotify App or use Chromecast. Combining these with Hue Sync is impossible.
Meet Airscreen
A small app you can install on any Android device (including your TV stick or Mediabox). It acts as an Airplay receiver and allows you to connect with your Mac, using this little icon from the top toolbar
Follow these steps
- Install Airscreen on your media device (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ionitech.airscreen)
- Install Hue Sync on your Macbook (https://www2.meethue.com/en-au/entertainment/hue-sync)
- Define an entertainment area using the Hue App on your mobile
- Start both Hue Sync on your Macbook and Airscreen on your media device
- Connect the two together
- Fire up Spotify, Youtube or whatever on your Macbook
- Enjoy :)
If you are using Spotify you can of course use their smartphone app to control your music.
